Rasgueos are often not practiced by many guitarists since at first sight they seem to be one of the easiest flamenco techniques to play.
However, when studied properly, they give a really nice swing to your playing.
In this video maestro Tino van der Sman will give you some practical advice that will help you improve your rasgueado technique.
When studying rasgueados you should bare in mind that:
- There is not just rhythm to rasgueos but also percussion, and the percussion should sound good as well (0:33);
- A good sound is not so much about playing loud or fast, it’s about controlling the movement (1:05);
- Practical advice: don’t flick your fingers or place them behind your thumb, and always play slightly below your maximum volume (1:15);
